Skippyjon Jones: Lost in Spice

5 Nov

It’s time for Book Trailer Friday, you guys! Today, I wanted to share one of the funniest videos I’ve seen in quite a while. (It’s had the Book Talk team wailing “Muuuuchaaaachoooos” all over Scholastic.)

Skippyjon Jones is hands down one of my absolute favorite characters…probably ever! Skippyjon Jones: Lost in Spice is the latest adventure for this adventurous Siamese ca—ahem, excuse me, I mean Chihuahua. This time, Skippy must travel to Mars, the red planet. You see, it’s called the red planet because it is covered in very spicy red pepper. And Skippy needs to head there to find out whether or not there are Martians who may or may not look like him! Now, I won’t spoil the ending for you, but I will give you a chance to hear some of the story straight from the author herself:

Check out Judy Schachner reading during part one of Skippyjon Jones: Lost in Spice!

Be sure and find Skippy on SeeSaw this November so you can find out what happens!

Book Trailer Friday! The Lost Hero!

29 Oct

Happy Friday everyone!

It’s time for another exciting installment of Book Trailer Friday! This week’s pick is from Rick Riordan’s new series, The Heroes of Olympus. We’re very excited about this book here in the office and if you haven’t read the book already, what are you waiting for? It’s Percy Jackson times two! Well, why don’t we let Rick tell you about it:

Don’t forget, you can find The Heroes of Olympus, Book One: The Lost Hero in November’s Arrow and TAB catalogs. Can’t get enough Rick Riordan? Be sure to check out his author page here.

Book Trailer Friday

Welcome, all, to another edition of BTF. There were so many great book trailers that I looked at this week that I couldn’t decide. That is, until I started reading The Adventures of Ook and Gluk, Kung-Fu Cavemen from the Future by Dav Pilkey and was curious if there was a book trailer for it. And wouldn’t you know it—not only is there a book trailer, but an awesome one at that! For those who don’t know, Dav Pilkey is the acclaimed author of the Captain Underpants series and Ook and Gluk is his new book, which can be found on September’s Lucky and Arrow clubs.

If you need more Ook and Gluk, check out what the Lucky Editors had to say about it here.

Book Trailer Friday!

10 Sep

We here at Book Talk decided that we want to do something fun on Fridays, so we are starting Book Trailer Fridays! “What are book trailers?” you may be asking. Book trailers are just like movie trailers…but for books! There are some really great ones out there, and we want to share them with you! Book trailers can be a great resource for teachers in the classroom; because they are another way kids can interact with the text, and teachers can use trailers when doing a book talk as well!

One of my favorite book trailers out right now is for Scott Westerfeld’s Leviathan! Splat the Cat by Rob Scotton has a really great trailer as well. But to kick off the first Book Trailer Friday, we are going to highlight the trailer for Tad Hills’ How Rocket Learned to Read. You can find How Rocket Learned to Read in October’s Firefly! And don’t forget that we have an exclusive “I Can Read Like Rocket!” reading certificate that you can download to use in your classroom!
